For many Belgians the idea of the fatherland remains an alien concept. In the nearly 200 years of its existence, our country has been called many things: a farce, a surrealist masterpiece, a failed state and even the best remedy against patriotism.
What is it like to live in a country that nobody seems to take seriously? With the year 2030 as my deadline, I am randomly roaming through the country, looking for anything that smells like fatherland.
he results of this highly unscientific research will be published in a series of magazines. The publication of the book ‘Belgium, Mon Amour’ is planned for 4 October 2030, exactly 200 years after the declaration of Belgian independence.
